Teamarrr - “Cool Enough”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 9

Pairs Well With…Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, King Princess

Boston-based Teamarrr primarily presents herself as a neo-soul/R&B artist, leaning into chilled-out, jazz-leaned grooves, but it’s not all smoky-lounge grooves on her 2017 debut Thanks for the Chapstick and an even stronger run of singles since, topped off with just-released “Cool Enough”. Intoned with hip hop and some of the funkier rhythms in her catalog, “Cool Enough” also falls into percussive indie pop territory from another angle, a trend that takes off D Smoke collaboration “Kinda Love” as well. While it’s clear Teamarrr has big vocal abilities, she smartly holds back to a tone a little more conversational with some hints of Afropop and Caribbean twisting her evolving sound even further.
