There’s a certain type of charm in the way The Lagoons embrace soft-pop/yacht-rock influences in their music, whether it’s within new-age jazz sax jams, chill funk grooves, or airy new wave melodies. Following a couple EPs since their 2016 debut Gems, the Austin duo is set to release a yet-to-be-titled LP later this year already previewed by a trio of tracks including slow-funk jam “Give It Up for Love”, dream pop number “Love To Love You”, and the Latin rhythms and melodies of jazzy track “Milagro”. While naturally smooth, The Lagoons do add some jangly splices to their music to keep the groove going, a full sound even while breezily moving along. (Kevin McStravick)
