Tallies - “No Dreams of Fayres”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3
Pairs Well With…Snail Mail, Alvvays, Beach House
2021 single “No Dream of Fayres” leans into Tallies’ dream-pop tendencies, a pop-centered number that is covered in synth waves and pretty guitar melodies. Tallies succeeds best when they match sugary melodies with tripped-out psychedelic pop and the balance is spot-on in “No Dreams of Fayres”, eschewing their naturally upbeat disposition with comfortable melancholy. Like softly shimmering moonbeams, there’s mystery stilled in reflective lightness here while still giving away a memorable, sing-a-long chorus. (Kevin McStravick)
2020 Review: Beach-ready guitar melodies and 60s-type vocal lines embolden Tallies’ music, a comfortable and catchy take on smooth indie rock. Twists of new-wave synths also accompany Tallies’ consistent and dreamy self-titled full-length, dipping into psychedelic pop/rock territory on tracks like “Eden” and “Trouble” for some of the more adventurous branches’ of their sound. The Toronto-based quartet has delivered a noticeably tight collection of tracks for a debut record - these songs sound developed and mature with all parts acting in sweet concert with one another.
