Hitting their thirtieth year as a band, Austin’s The Coffee Sergeant still sound fresh on their latest collection Phantom Verses. Alt country, classic rock, and psych rock influences prop up their sound, melded together with maturity and an indie-rock looseness. Going back the early 90s, you can hear early grunge influence intertwine with synth-rock layers that work in their own right, but there’s also evolution across their catalogue that make The Coffee Sergeant more of an interesting current act than throwing back to their heavier rock roots.
