Colatura - “Scars”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2
Pairs Well With…CHVRCHES, Belle & Sebastian, Beach House
A little synth pop and a little indie rock, Colatura play in a breezy, comfortable plane that sands down their catchy, power-pop songwriting. The Brooklyn trio have released a string of memorable singles since their debut 2018 EP Spring Drew Blood - there’s quick evolution in their sound that has led to the enticing recent singles that will feature on their upcoming debut record And Then I’ll Be Happy. “Scars” sways with dream-pop elegance, “King Kalm” pulls in new-wave and classic indie rock influence, and “Team Sport” bounces with twee sweetness. Lookout for dual guy/girl vocals to give Colatura even more diversity of sound in a genre that is normally bottled in limited fashion - Colatura are subtly exciting with hidden pop charm.
