The Texas Gentlemen - “Ain’t Nothing New”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 5
Pairs Well With…The Band, Booker T & The MGs, Tedeschi Trucks Band
While tight Southern jams are expectedly met, it’s a pleasant surprise to hear ambition in The Texas Gentlemen’s sophomore record Floor It!!!, exploring R&B, jazz, and Americana modes throughout the wide-ranging effort. The Texas Gentlemen are chameleons around 60s and 70s song forms, nailing whatever shade they’re turning through studied songwriting and instrumental precision. Aided by a horn section, there’s a collective spirit throughout Floor It!!! emitting comforting joy. While The Texas Gentlemen are knowingly throwing back to the past, there’s a real sense of progress here that really speaks to the timeless nature of the genres in which this excellent live band tackles. 2020 Review: Southern rock ramblers and classic R&B/funk enthusiasts The Texas Gentlemen spent their 2019 touring heavily, especially across the Red-Dirt circuit, mixing in originals from 2017’s TX Jelly and a generous helping of classic rock covers. Notably authentic and dripping with tight musicianship, The Texas Gentlemen have grown to be one of the stronger live acts in their blues, country, and soul blended genres and hopefully have a sophomore release eyed up for sometime in 2020.
