Bridging pop-trap and indie hip hop, Austin duo Thee Unemployed go between lyrically dense verses and club-ready mantras across their burgeoning catalog. Prolific songwriters, The Void is Thee Unemployed sixth EP since their first in 2020, a satisfying collection of bass-rumbling, chilled bangers. Throwback lyrically, but future-facing in the woozy sounds of their beats, there’s moodiness in Thee Unemployed sound that takes them left from straight pop repetition. It has only been a couple years since Thee Unemployed debuted, but there’s growth here moving through their tracks chronologically, tighter in its delivery and allowing for spaced-out moments that make their songs breathe.
