Wet Leg - “Oh No”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 9; Popularity Index: 9
Pairs Well With…Girlpool, Yard Act, Sylvan Esso
Infectious and eclectic, Wet Leg’s music is a unique blend of dream pop, post punk, and indie rock delivered with confidence and charm. The UK duo has already had an impact with just four singles under their name and it is not a surprise - all four are excellently crafted, catchy in twisted ways that make their songs instantly memorable. Listening through their tracks repeatedly keeps revealing new melodic turns and musical layers that Wet Leg employ like seasoned technicians. The post-punk influence plays the most fascinating role in their music - rather than turning jagged melodies and percussion into thick, shoegaze noise, Wet Leg sound outright breezy while still playing with dissonance and edge. An album is due sometime in 2022 and don’t be surprised if it’s an unexpected hit as more listeners champion their refreshing, new-rock sound. Wet Leg have their sights on SXSW being of part of that springboard with three showcases lined up, most notably Wednesday at Half Step within a killer lineup featuring SASAMI, The Range, BABii, and Snapped Ankles.
