Vortxz - “My Love”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…Real Estate, Divino Niño, Surfer Blood

A little indie rock, a little new wave, a little grunge, Vortxz sound surprising warm and breezy and they target a space for their catchy/moody tracks. A Texas band with a foot in Latin rock as well, Vortxz’s introductory singles cover a wide space, which could be a band in the process defining their own sound, or a purposeful effort to fuse genres into a pop-centered space. With some garage-rock and psych-rock energy bubbling melancholically in Vortxz’s music, they keep things just weird enough to sand down the hooky songwriting happening within. They’re a band reverential of the past as well, leaning into 70s, 80s, and 90s rock patterns with ease, not necessarily throwback artists, but ones able take those influences and making them their own. Vortxz showcases on Friday night for Figure It Out Agency at Palm Door on Sixth. (Kevin McStravick)
