Gallus - “Fruitflies”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Green Day, Gang of Youths, Frightened Rabbit

Scottish rock band Gallus pull much of their influence from the poppier sides of 90s alt rock, drafting catchy, riffing singles since debuting in 2018. Pop-punk and post-punk melodies criss-cross throughout Gallus’ music, constantly driving, but finding space for twisting melodies and embracing chaos without losing sight of each song’s mega-hooks. One foot in the garage and another stepping towards bigger stages, Gallus are percussively tight and willing to go to eleven from note one, eschewing subtly for powerful licks and vocal melodies. These tracks imaginably erupt live, aided by frontman Barry Dolan’s grittily charging vocal approach pulling this whole energetic package together. (Kevin McStravick)
