New Zealand’s Merk explores bedroom pop modes with a funky, experimenter’s touch, crafting his minimal, chillwave productions with loose, breezy connectors. Merk’s sound is simultaneously tripped-out and subtly hooky, built around synth-pop melodies both bright and cerebrally psychedelic. R&B soundwaves and dream-pop vibes inform Merk’s most recent single “Hang”, one of two 2018 tracks following his more indie rock oriented 2016 debut Swordfish. (Kevin McStravick)
