Canadian R&B artist Shay Lia is a nice amalgam of 90s-vibed new soul and contemporary electronic R&B, a smooth-tone singer specializing in down-tempo, soul grooves. Lia’s debut record is 2019’s Dangerous, a consistent collection that is equally spaced out and pop oriented across the Deluxe Edition’s eleven tracks. Lia’s approach is finely understated on Dangerous too, holding back even on funkier songs like “Want You” and “Voodoo”, a track featuring a verse by rising Compton rapper Buddy. (Kevin McStravick)
