Sycco - “Ripple” (feat. Flume & Chrome Sparks)

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Mallrat, Caroline Polachek, Remi Wolf

Sycco hits a nice space that falls between dance and indie pop on her solo singles and collaborations, just understated enough to vibe with the synth and electro-drums that back her cooled out vocal melodies. Teaming up with Flume and Chrome Sparks, Sycco has crafted a bonafide hit in “Ripple”, a full, trance-pop song that expectedly features brilliant production and layers of softened sounds that Flume and Chrome Sparks have perfected. Her other breakout “Dribble” keeps that mid-tempo groove energy and is one of many examples that find Sycco playing the role of full-on R&B artist, a hat she wears well in addition to her natural pop lane. With an EP and a smattering of singles since, Sycco is growing her catalog nicely and seems like an artist ready to take a longer step to pop ubiquity, so lookout for SXSW to be a strong onramp for the Australian artist’s rise.
